Michael Smith
8pm ~ Saturday,
Sep 13th
Michael Smith is the quintessential folk
artist. After purchasing his first guitar
at age 15 in 1956 he was soon emulating his
heroes, The Kingston Trio, performing at
hospitals and early incarnations of folk
coffee houses in Chicago. He achieved
national notice for his talent when Steve
Goodman recorded Michael’s song,
The Dutchman,
which became an instant folk ‘classic’.
Besides touring playing his own music, he
has written the scores for several theater
productions, including the multiple Tony
winning Broadway production of
The Grapes of Wrath.
Add in the several critically acclaimed CDs
to his credit and Michael Smith is probably
the best folk singer/songwriter you have
never heard of. But, fear not, you can
remedy that deficiency by catching his
concert at Millbend Coffeehouse this
September 13th. Elly Hard of the Spring
Ahead Toastmasters will open the show with
several of her humorous stories.
Those who know his work call him a genius. -
