Sandra & Stewart Concert Series Presents

Roy Zimmerman
7:00PM ~ Saturday, Sept. 20th

If Gandhi had played guitar, grown hair and sung at the top of his lungs, he still wouldn't have had Roy Zimmerman's wicked sense of musical satire. On the other hand, Roy Zimmerman has never liberated a nation from a tyrannical oppressor. He's working on it though, one song at a time. Roy sings a compelling combination of socially conscious comedy and original music. It's Lenny Bruce meets Stephen Sondheim meets Phil Ochs in Brian Wilson's living room.

Many fans have eagerly awaited Roy's newest CD, Thanks for the Support, a collection of twelve fiercely funny songs about the absurdities of this election season, all recorded live and the satirical soundtrack for Roy's fifty-state campaign. The title track is Roy's heartbreaking take on those "Support Our Troops" bumper stickers, and what that support must feel like to one of those troops. Those who buy the CD on-line because they can't wait to possess it will want to bring it to the concert for Roy's autograph.

Intelligent Design

words and music © by Roy Zimmerman

When we said No Child Left Behind
Baghdad was what we had in mind
So we devised a standard test
To tell the brightest and the whitest
From the rest

We’re cutting luxuries like teachers, books and tutors
To make things easier for disadvantaged, underprivileged military recruiters

And you say that’s stupid
That's really stupid
Yeah, you say that's ignorant, insane and asinine

And yeah, it’s stupid
I say you’re right, it’s stupid
It’s really, really stupid by Intelligent Design

That is the War on Terror

words and music by Roy Zimmerman © 2006 (Watunes)

There's this great Popeye cartoon where he gets inside of Bluto's shirt.
And he's popping out of his sleeves going, "Here I yam, Over here, Yoo hoo!"
And Bluto is confused - He's going, "Hey, where'd you - why you - hmmm!"
And he's trying to beat up Popeye, and he ends up pummeling himself.

And that...is the War on Terror
That is the War on Terror - yeah, that's the War on Terror
That is the War on Terror

There's this old joke where a guy is walking home late at night.
He sees another guy under a street light, searching frantically in the gutter.
He says, "Hey man, what did you lose?" - The guy says, "I dropped my keys about six blocks away."
He says, "Why aren't you looking over there?" - The guy says, "The light's better over here."

And that...is the War on Terror
That is the War on Terror - yeah, that's the War on Terror
That is the War on Terror
